Bloodstone Crystal

Bloodstone, also known as Heliotrope, was once deemed the most exquisite Jasper gemstone in the ancient world. With a deep earthy green colour speckled with vibrant red spots, it was referred to as the Sun Stone and later, Christ’s Stone. Its energy exuded the essence of blood purity and represented vitality, passion, and courage – an emblem of life and birth. The Bloodstone was mystical and magical, acting as a talisman for protection and nurturing.

Legends state that during the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, his wounds bled onto the dark green earth and turned to stone, giving birth to the Blood Stone. The gem is a symbol of noble sacrifice and offers solace and bravery to those who are selfless for the benefit of others. Those who carry or wear it demonstrate their highest and most selfless character.

However, the Bloodstone was a prized possession even before the time of Christ and was called Heliotrope. According to beliefs, when immersed in water or placed in the setting sun’s rays, it turned the reflection of the sun to a blood-red hue. It dates back to Mesopotamia and was utilized to detoxify organs and assist with blood disorders. People from different cultures would dip Heliotrope in cold water and apply it to the body to prevent disease or injury and improve circulation. Its coagulant effects made it an amulet of protection and bravery, commonly carried by ancient warriors.

Bloodstone was ground into a fine powder and mixed with honey to cure tumours, stop bleeding, and draw out snake venom. It was believed to clear putrefaction in abscesses in just one day and prevent eye diseases by merely gazing at the gemstone.

Bloodstone belongs to the Jasper or Chalcedony Quartz family and is typically a blend of the two. It is typically dark green, ranging from greenish blue to greenish black, with spots of Red Jasper or iron oxide inclusions. The gemstone is usually opaque, with a waxy, resinous lustre.

Overall, Bloodstone, with its mythical qualities, medicinal powers, and beautiful appearance, has captivated humans for centuries. It continues to be cherished as a precious gemstone with protective and nurturing virtues, reflecting the essence of life, courage, and purity.

In addition to the spots and streaks of Red Jasper, some formations contain inclusions that are yellow or white, while others lacking inclusions may be entirely green. Bloodstone has been referred to as Blood Jasper and specimens with only yellow inclusions have been called Plasma.

Bloodstone has been referred to as Blood Jasper and may be used to boost the immune system and to purify the blood, spleen, liver, kidneys, bladder, and intestines, neutralizing and eliminating toxins from the body. It benefits blood-rich organs, regulates and stimulates blood flow, and aids circulation. It is conducive to healthy bone marrow and may be used in the treatments of blood disorders such as anaemia, leukaemia, tumours, acute infections, and over-acidification.

Bloodstone is a remarkable stone that is commonly associated with the birthing process and is highly beneficial to women during their childbearing years. It promotes the production of nutrient-rich blood and hormonal balance, thus preventing miscarriages and providing support during the birthing process. Additionally, it is believed to alleviate symptoms of PMS and menstrual disorders while stabilizing hormones through menopause.

When applied to an afflicted area, Bloodstone dipped in cold water is highly effective in staunching blood flow, particularly in the case of nosebleeds. Bloodstone water made through the indirect method or by letting the stone soak in demineralized water overnight relieves varicose veins and haemorrhoids. It is also believed to alleviate lower back pain and mosquito bites.

Bloodstone teaches us that chaos often precedes transformation and guides us in understanding when to strategically withdraw from situations. Furthermore, it encourages flexibility and taking the right action to stay true to one’s own path. Bloodstone has a calming effect on the emotional body and dispels confusion while enhancing decision-making. It nourishes feelings of worth, self-confidence, and self-sufficiency.

Bloodstone has a tremendous power to ground individuals fully in the present moment, enhance their strength, determination, and courage. It provides emotional support during times of extreme adversity and helps individuals who have been bullied or abandoned by others regain their connection to the Divine, reminding them that loneliness and isolation are mere illusions.

As an intense healing stone, Bloodstone is used to cleanse and realign the lower chakras with the heart, promoting overall body balance and overcoming distress and anxiety associated with the re-alignment of these energies. Bloodstone is particularly stimulating to the Root and Heart Chakras, providing balance and harmony to the mind, body, and soul.

If the body is unbalanced, it can lead to symptoms such as tiredness, low activity levels, lack of enthusiasm, and a desire for constant stimulation. To rebalance the Root Chakra and eliminate blockages, red crystal energy can be used to help restore our sense of strength and control.
