Gold Topaz

Topaz is an aluminium silicate fluoride hydroxide crystal, occurring in pegmatites and high temperature quartz veins, as well as in cavities in granite and rhyolites. The term “Imperial Topaz” originated in 19th century Russia, where the rare pink gemstones discovered in the Ural Mountains were named to honour the Russian czar. Today, the gem trade generally uses the term for Topaz in pink, pinkish gold, golden yellow-orange, orange-brown, and red hues, the most valuable forms. True Imperial Topaz is always untreated, and material which has been coloured by artificial means is not regarded as genuine Imperial Topaz.
